READ Says Reunite for Game Night!
Family. Friends. Traditions. Love.
Unusual times call for creative ways to stay connected and have fun with family and friends. With many Americans staying home to stay safe, READ invites everyone to Reunite for Game Night virtually with spouses, partners, friends, neighbors and family members. We’ve pulled together everything you need for the ultimate Game Night including, more than a dozen downloadable trivia games, pro tips for virtual party planning, and of course delicious READ recipes to make Game Night complete.
Pick Your Video Platform
Hearing from a loved one is great, but SEEING their faces is the best. Free video platforms abound these days, here are a few of the bigger ones to choose from. One of the easiest is Zoom Video. Anyone can establish a free account on Zoom, which allows for a 40-minute video gathering of up to 100 people. (Longer video gatherings need a monthly Pro Plan for $14.99)
Other options include Skype, Google Hang-outs, Alexa Video and FaceTime but it’s important to remember that for a successful Virtual Trivia Night, all participants need to have access to the same platform in order for it to work. For instance, FaceTime is available only on Apple devices. With Zoom, all anyone needs is a WiFi connection and a computer, tablet or smart phone.
Invite Your Guests
Once you have your guest list, send them a fun and engaging invitation via email or social media like the one READ offers on its website. Don’t forget to include the all-important video link, and the day and time of the party. Be sure to note time in different time zones if your guests are geographically far-flung. (6 p.m. Central time; 7 p.m. Eastern time, for instance.)
The Format
Alex Trebek look out. This is your moment to shine as host. And as such, you’ll be the one asking the trivia questions and revealing the correct answers. There are two ways to have folks play, depending on how large your group is.
- If you have a small group of two to four people, people can just shout out their answers.
- If the group is larger, ask people to raise their hands or have them write their answers in the comment section of the Zoom screen. First one with the right answer wins.
Raise the Stakes if You Like!
If a little friendly competition is what you seek, you can offer creative prizes for the most correct answers. Think about easy, no-cost prizes, like dinner at someone’s house after the stay-at-home restrictions are lifted. Or, fame and glory via a post on a Facebook or Instagram.
Capture the Fun
Don’t forget to save the memory of these virtual get-togethers by taking a photo or video of your screen and party recipes and post them on social media to share with the rest of your friends. Be sure to tag @ReadSalads and use the hashtag #ReuniteWithREAD – we want to see people connecting together, at a safe distance!
Good luck and good eating!
